Daniela Sandoval is a master of hand crafted, authentic songs. Listen to a song from 'Mírala Mirando' the latest album from her project Surcarilita, and Sandoval will welcome you into her insular world. In one moment you might catch her with bandmate and collaborator Ana Cossio bashing on guitar and drums like Beat Happening and in the next you'll find yourself awash in midi synths, acoustic guitar, and singing saw that would feel right at home on an orchid tapes comp. Centered among all this is Daniela's incredibly beautiful and singular voice and for the first time you will hear her a couple times singing in her native Spanish. Her debut release 'holiwis' (bud011) put Surcarilita on the map in her local Tijuana and San Diego scene's where she's been playing shows with likeminded bands and with this new sophomore effort Sandoval builds on all of that, crafting some of her best songs to date and showcasing her knack for innovative, unique and boundary pushing production. Now grab a cat, plop down in your favorite spot on the couch, and enjoy this magnificent new album from one of diy musics most magical minds.
