BUY DIGITAL DOWNLOAD DIRECTLY FROM MORGAN HERE: boreen.bandcamp.com/album/book-of-hours

My favorite thing about Boreen is the way in which Morgan O'Sullivan evades description with his music. Songs will at one moment weep and grind and in the next, explode. Genre falls to the wayside as the strange ebb and flow of life takes over. This isn't to say that O'Sullivan doesn't make pop music though. This latest record is one of Boreen's most powerful and hook-laden releases to date. The melodies and moods that he crafts will creep into your mind and set up shop, spinning hooks for days on end and leave you craving another listen. Throughout the album, he phones in help from Harrison Smith of Turtlenecked, who provides locked in grooves on his drum kit, and O'Sullivan's partner Quinn Kennelly, who lends her soaring background vocals and violin. Morgan's production has grown immensely in the 3 years since 2018's already marvelous, 'Lovely.' 'Book of Hours' opener "Swallowing the Key" starts with a highly compressed and distorted O'Sullivan with just his guitar and voice before exploding into textures and swells of synths, samples, and various instrumentation. The closing track "Fantasy Suite" sees Boreen fully functioning on another level, crafting a vangelis-esque ambient suite out of hooks from throughout the record. He simultaneously shows his prowess with production, samples, and synthesizers while also demonstrating that the melodies he crafts are larger than the music you just heard, they can exist in infinite contexts and when stripped down, are beautiful to their core. I'm so happy I get to help share this wonderful collection with y'all. I hope you find as much joy in it as I do.
